April 7, 2020
Greetings! First, let me thank you for all of the support and patience you have demonstrated over these past few weeks. It has been a very trying time for you, your family, and your community, but rest assured, we shall get through this together.
Beginning Monday, April 13, 2020, the school district will implement a revised informal continuity of education plan. Under this revision, teachers will be available daily to provide feedback; answer questions; to support your child's voluntary participation in the optional learning activities posted. On April 20, 2020, all postings, communication, and teacher feedback will be accomplished through Google Classroom. Building principals will contact you directly related to logging in instructions and passwords associated with Google Classroom. Teachers and counselors will have daily office hours from April 13, 2020, to June 12, 2020, except for Memorial Day, May 25, 2020. This will be the plan for the remainder of the school year unless Governor Wolf or Secretary of Education Rivera determines that schools may resume face-to-face instruction in May.
The focus of the informal continuity of education plan will continue to be on remediation, reinforcement, and enrichment of previously learned knowledge and skills. Remediation and reinforcement activities will help to provide your child with opportunities to rectify any knowledge and/or skill deficits and will support your child in maintaining the grade-level knowledge and skills acquired to date. Enrichment activities will extend your child's education and skills associated with previously taught academic standards. You may have your child complete any or all of the activities posted each week. With office hours daily, you can rest assured you will find responsive teachers and staff eager to support your child's learning. While these activities are optional, I strongly encourage you to support the continuation of your child's learning daily in the manner which you deem appropriate.
I will be presenting a school calendar revision to the Board of Education on April 15, 2020. The revision calls for the cancellation of April 13 and May 22 as school holidays and calls for Friday, June 12, to be the last day of the 2019/2020 school year. As of today, the status of a graduation ceremony on June 13, 2020, seems unlikely, but rest assured, when it is safe to do so, a graduation ceremony will be scheduled to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2020.
