This is the 16th year the Foundation has awarded scholarships totaling $930,000.

In 2016 the Foundation provided funding to the Student Career Trip Program. The mission of this program is to allow students of the Susquehanna Community School District have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the numerous professions available to assist them in defining their future career paths. A key benefit of the program is to provide students the opportunity to gain access and interact with individuals in real life career fields and institutions of higher education.

Field trips were taken to both academic and industrial Locations which included: Golisano’s Children’s Hospital, Binghamton University, BAE Systems, WNEP-TV, University of Scranton, Binghamton University, Lockheed Martin, and Johnson College of Technology.

The following is a letter I received from a student related to the Career Trip Program.

"Dear Mr. Roger O’Neil,

As the Student Administrator of the Susquehanna Community Mentor Program, I would personally like to thank you for the funding you have provided us this year. With the funding, we had a total of forty-eight students attend these trips from all high school grades, and they were able to gain real world experiences at places such as BAE Systems, WNEPTV Studios, Delta Engineering, Barnes Kasson Hospital, and Golisano’s Children's Hospital.  Students also recently attended a field trip to The University of Scranton and Johnson College, to give them early insight on the expectations of the college admissions offices and the college curriculum. In addition, we have a trip planned to Lockheed Martin in April. Feedback from these trips has been overwhelmingly positive, students often tell me how much they learned or how great the experience was for them after these trips. Personally, I am very passionate about giving back, and I cannot thank you enough for your generous donation to the program: you give back to the community from which you came, and I have very high respect and appreciation for that. I am confident that the program will continue to expand upon the success we have established this year. Again, thank you for your continued support, if you have any questions regarding the program, please feel free to email me.

Thank you,

Daniel Braun"

The O’Neil Foundation Board members thank you for your continued support to allow us to meet our objective to encourage the youth of the Susquehanna Community to pursue higher education.
